Trades II – Fire Technician


We are currently offering an exciting opportunity for a skilled individual with a high degree of technical knowledge in the repair and maintenance of all Fire apparatus and firefighting equipment.

The incumbent exercises independence of judgment and action as to the method and maintenance or repair upon receiving assignments and organizes, assigns and checks work during progress and/or completion in order to meet priorities. The incumbent also ensures work is conducted within Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service (AFRS) guidelines and budgetary limits.

As the successful candidate you will possess:

  • Grade 12 supplemented by a current BC Trades Qualification in Heavy Duty or Commercial Vehicle Transport Technicians plus a minimum of 5 years experience as a heavy duty Technician or as a commercial vehicle transport Technician
  • Technician preferably working on Fire Rescue Service vehicles and equipment or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with air brake maintenance and repair
  • Working knowledge of computers and computer software
  • Interprovincial Standard Endorsement (Heavy Duty or Commercial Transport Mechanic)
  • Valid B. C. Driver’s Licence, Class 3 with Air Brake Endorsement
  • BC Motor Vehicle Inspector's Authorization for all vehicles and vehicles equipped with air brakes will be required within 2 years of employment
  • Emergency Vehicles Technician - Master Fire Apparatus Technician's Level will be required within 2 years of employment

The hourly rate of pay for this union position ranges from $25.80 to $30.35 (2009 rates). In addition, the City of Abbotsford offers a comprehensive health benefit package and pension plan.
